We have big news to share!

The past ten years have been an amazing Journey…..and this journey continues…but down a different road. When we started Calling Levi, one of the first things we were willing to do, consider, and pray diligently about, was relocate. It made sense to move to Nashville or Atlanta; or maybe even Jacksonville, FL. First of all, because most of our ministry opportunities are to, and through, the local church; one would think it would be a wise decision to move to an area where there are more churches to partner with (the Bible Belt). Secondly, from a financial standpoint, it would be “smart” to move to a place where there is a lower cost-of-living. The cost of living is much higher, comparatively, in the North East than it is in the South. However, despite our willingness to move, and the common sense it seemed to make, God clearly never “released” us from Delaware. So, through the years we’ve clung to the passage Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean NOT on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. For the past ten years, although we have been “on the road” and often away from home, we have been building strong relationships with our neighbors and people in our community. For the past ten years we have had a strong burden for these relationships. As a result, we have prayed for and longed to have a church in our community specifically like some of those we are so blessed to partner with across the country. INCREDIBLY, our prayers are being answered….and SURPRISINGLY, they are being answered through the ministry of Calling Levi. God is leading our team, and others, to plant a church in Townsend, DE; and with a humble and awe-filled heart, I have surrendered to God’s call on my life to be the pastor of that church. God’s perfect plan for all of this began over two years ago; and not knowing how or when, we felt led, as a first step, to start a Bible Study in our homes on Tuesday nights. We called it LifeHouse based off of John 10:10 where Jesus says, “…I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” Because Rob and Steph only live two doors down, we piled all the kids in their basement, and all the adults in our house. To the Glory of GOD, He continues to bless, as we have seen several of our friends and neighbors trust Jesus Christ for salvation as a result! (Some of whom we have been praying for by name, for over 5 years!!!) We stand in AWE and are so grateful for His faithfulness! FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS: In response to God’s leading, our families are stepping out in faith once again. Although LifeHouse currently meets weekly on Tuesday nights, we now hold services in the local Fire Station’s Banquet Hall; LifeHouse CHURCH will begin holding regular Sunday morning services on February 12th. Obviously….this is HUGE for our families and for Angela and Sheri…..and we need your help! PLEASE PRAY FOR US; for LifeHouse Church, Calling Levi, and our families!!!! WE are ASKING you to pray that the Lord of the Harvest ….will send workers/helpers, and we are asking that you pray for provision, and for protection, for wisdom, …..and for GOD TO SAVE SOULS in Delaware!!!

- Mark

So what does this mean for Calling Levi?
That’s the question everyone has been asking. It’s what we asked ourselves for months on end after Mark shared his heart about becoming a pastor. It’s the question we asked God almost daily in prayer as we felt Him leading us to step out in faith and begin this work in our home community…! The Calling Levi team is not “disbanding”. We are all rolling up our sleeves and getting busy in the work of LifeHouse. While Mark has embraced the call of pastor, Rob has taken on the ministry of music in our new work. Stephanie has been partnering with Rob in leading worship and Tammy has taken on the ministry of hospitality working behind the scenes. Sheri and Angela have also been keeping busy with the many needs that go along with launching a church. We cannot say how God will continue to use Calling Levi. We don’t see ourselves necessarily as a singing group – simply ministers of the Gospel. However God should choose to have us do this, is alright with us. This may mean that the traveling schedule changes. Perhaps we will take only a handful of invitations in the coming year. Our main objective is to continue to be effective for Christ and the Kingdom by being obedient to what God is asking for today. Launching LifeHouse will not be easy. It is yet another opportunity to stretch and grow our faith. Traveling over 200 days a year provided the means to take care of our families. Cutting our travel schedule significantly requires us to trust God to provide for us in other ways, as He has faithfully done throughout the past 10 years of Calling Levi. We trust God to prove His faithfulness to His servants. Please be praying for us and this new endeavor. Much of our time will be invested in this new outreach. However, we will continue to prayerfully consider invitations to sing and expect to minister in 1-3 concerts each month. We covet your prayers and support as we step out to be a light for Christ in our community.

Always an adventure

The weekend started early- 5am Saturday morning to be exact.  We headed to the Philly airport to catch our 7:25 morning flight to Dallas.  After a stop in St. Louis, we landed at 11am and we were starving!  Did you know Texas has the best food ever? Well, it does.  So we went to one of our favorites for lunch, Pappassitos!  After filling ourselves of chips and salsa, tacos & sopapillas, we got back on the road for our 4 hour drive west to Snyder, TX.  The roads to Snyder were long and full of windmills!  We arrived at our hotel at 5pm (12 hours from when we started that morning).    We had a great dinner with the youth pastor & his wife.  After dinner, we went to set up at the church.  I believe all of us were in bed by 10pm that night.  Little did we know – the fun was just beginning!

We woke up to some rockin’ and rollin’ – our hotel started shaking!  It was an earthquake!  Really?  In Texas?  A quick confirmation call to the funny little nervous guy at the front desk assured us of what we had felt.  We jumped online to find out what happened.  Sure enough, at 7:25am there was a 4.4 magnitude earthquake.  The epicenter was 11 miles from our hotel.   This would make it the 3rd major natural event for us to experience in one month (including the D.C quake & hurricane Irene)!

The service on Sunday morning was awesome.  The church honored the first responders in the area and remembered the events that happened on 9/11.  We hit the road at about 1pm to drive 2 hours to San Angelo.  The road to get there is pure Texas desert.  At some points, there was nothing for miles.  We were going through a stretch of road that was hit by wildfires a few months earlier and we were noticing all of the burned trees & bushes along the way.  All of the sudden, everything electrical stopped working on our rental van.  This included the air conditioning, blinkers, electric windows, radio, headlights, wipers, etc.  Now, let’s remember we are in Texas with 97 degree weather, we have no AC and we can’t roll down the windows!  Oh yeah, since we were in the desert, we have no cell service!!  At this point, we are just praying that the van doesn’t quit on us & that we would not be coyote snacks!  We finally get a call through to the rental car company to have them bring us a new van.  At this point we were 45 minutes from our destination & it started to get a little stuffy.  Before we knew it, it had turned into a sauna in there!  We finally made it to the town of San Angelo and at every stoplight, we would all open our doors to try and get some cooler air…97 degree air!

The rental car company agreed to bring us a new van to the church on Sunday night because with 5 people, luggage and equipment we won’t fit into anything smaller.  And we needed it ASAP because we had a 4 hour drive back to Dallas to catch a 6am flight to Philly.  We started the service at 6:30pm and Sheri got a call at about 7:30 telling her that the rental people were there.  She walked out to find a car on the back of the tow truck.  A CAR! Sheri told the tow guy, that this was not going to work but at this point the service wasn’t over yet…no time to talk.  She told the tow guy where the rental van was and that she would be back in 15 minutes.

After an hour on the phone with the rental car company, it was decided that we would leave both the van and the car there in San Angelo.  There was a nice man from the church that night that is the manager of another rental car company and he had a van in town.  He went directly to get it for us!  What a blessing! And when it got to us, it was a fully-loaded Suburban and way nicer than our rental van!

We left San Angelo at 9pm and arrived in Dallas at 1:15am.  Our heads had barely touched the pillow when the alarm went off at 4:15am.  Remember, we had a 6am flight home with stops in New Orleans and Tampa.  We arrived in Philly at 1:30pm and made it home in time to get the kids off the bus right after 3pm.  We were chatting on the way home and wondered if what we just experienced really had happened.  In our tired state, it felt like a dream! God was so faithful to carry us through.  He showed His provision for our ministry and us as individuals.  We were able to meet awesome new friends in Christ and see people saved.  That’s what it’s really about anyway.

Goodbye to summer…

Can you believe the summer is practically over?  We can’t!  Even though our summer tour is pretty much complete, we still can’t get over the kids starting school and the weather getting a little cooler.  It was just yesterday we were in triple digit weather winning multiple volleyball matches against the students at youth camp.   So far, we have traveled through 23 states with countless stops at plenty of fast food joints (what is it about McDonalds that is so appealing to a child?).   The longest we spent at one time on the road was 40 days.   We slept in 14 different hotels or dorms at youth camps and a considerable amount of overnight bus trips (did you know it takes 17 hours to get from VA to OK?). Whew, right? Oh, one more interesting fact, it would be safe to say that 25 cases of water bottles were consumed by our team!

Of course our summer was not without adventure…we experienced a first for Calling Levi.  The The group was singing “More Than Moved” and at the exact moment that Mark holds out his highest and longest note, the power went out!  To this, he replied “Woops”.  The power did come back on and we just kept going.  Another first came while we were at home in the office…an earthquake!  Don’t we live on the east coast?  Stephanie was the first out the door; followed by Mark, who left a flip flop behind.  Rob, being a true Alaskan, was not fazed.

God did so many awesome things this summer! We really would need to write a book to tell you about all of them.  We are just so thankful He lets us be a part of what He is doing.  And even though it’s hard to say goodbye to summer, we are so excited about what this next season will bring.  Including……. A new album!  We are traveling to Dallas in September to start recording our 7th project.  We are so excited! Start looking for it to release in late fall!

Thanks for being on this journey with us!

Youth Alive!

We just finished our third week of youth camp.  We are traveling between Oklahoma and Illinois for Tim Lee Ministries’, Youth Alive camps.  We spent this past week with about 600 students at Camp Wow in Stuart, OK.  It was an awesome camp and it was hot!! The average temperature during the day was 101!  Of course, we didn’t let that stop us from hanging out with the kids at the lake and getting in a few games of volleyball.

Youth Alive is four days of worship, preaching and fun.  We ministered in song with Jared Wood & Addison Road.   We heard Alex Himaya, Tim Lee, Ergun Caner, Clark Bosher & David Ring preach throughout the week.  Tammy was able to speak to the girls at camp on Tuesday morning and we had fun judging the talent show on Wednesday night!  God moved in every service and we witnessed hundreds of students respond to the Holy Spirit.

We enjoyed meeting Jeff & Trey from Team Impact on Wednesday morning.  They performed feats of strength like ripping phone books and breaking baseball bats; they gave their testimony and shared the Gospel.   The Calling Levi kids loved it!
We are looking forward to the next week of Youth Alive at Lake Williamson in Carlinville, IL and to see what God is going to do through the speakers and the singers.
We are always so thankful to be a part of this camp.  It keeps us young!

PowerLife 2011

It’s day 10 of our summer tour and we just finished the second week of PowerLife Youth Camp in Johnson City, TN.  It’s our 8th year to be a part of this awesome ministry!  Each year, Evangelist Rick Coram puts together a wonderful PowerLife staff that operates like a family.  We love spending time catching up with and seeing what God has done in each others lives.  We are also thrilled to see what God is doing in the lives of the students that attend.  In the two weeks we were able to be a part of, we saw 100′s of students make decisions for Jesus Christ (including salvation, re-commitment and being called into the ministry).

It’s a busy week with morning and evening worship, preaching, teaching, workshops, rec time and pod groups (where the campers create skits and decorate banners). We even fit in a little time this year to play some volleyball against the students and the staff (we were undefeated!). PowerLife is always one of the highlights of our year!
